A couple of my Google accounts have gotten the following message:

Google stopped this sign-in attempt, but you should review your recently
used devices:

What does this really mean?

How could that person/entity get my passwords? IOW is there some basic
security practice I'm missing? Don't they need to be able to access to
one or more of my computers/smartphones to get passwords?

Someone logging in with your password could be malware
related, but in this case it probably means you logged in from a
place/with an app that Google did not have in the vast database they
have on you (and on all of us).
If you are still worried, run a malware scan and change your
password from a "safe" computer.
